In January 2025, we carried out a two-week market visit to Chile, which included meetings with the mining industry, a technical visit to Codelco´s mine in Chuquicamata, Calama, and discussions with government institutions and stakeholders to follow up on the idea of using Norwegian experiences to develop low traffic road infrastructure in the south (subsea tunnels). We also held two seminars, one in Punta Arenas and one in Santiago.

During the first week of the market visit, we visited Codelco's Chuquicamata Underground project and held a technical meeting and site visit.

This Chuquicamata Underground project is transforming the century-old Chuquicamata open-pit mine, the largest in the world, into a modern, large-scale underground operation, extending the project's life by at least 40 years.

Later the same week, we met Codelco's VP in Santiago and discussed a proposal for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Norwegian tunneling industry and Codelco. An MoU will not only enhance cooperation on large tunneling contracts but will also greatly facilitate the introduction of products, services, and innovations into the Chilean mining industry.

During the visit, we also met other mining companies and actors and discussed future opportunities for collaboration.
